Woah...most serial Killers are extremely intelligent, fit well into society, and STUN people who know then when they finally get caught. They are pure psycopaths, people who do not have the ability to actually "feel" real emotions, but can fake it quite easily, and this coupled with "triggers" in their brian, or life set them off. I mean look at Bundy, he was accepted in very high social circles, studying law, handsome, people even called him the next JFK!
Gacy, was running for Town Councilman when he was caught, he even went around and entertained children as a Clown, married twice, was a very successful business man and people saw him as a LEADER of the community, then BAM he was caught and they found that he had brutally murdered and sexually assaulted over 40 some young men and boys.
Rolling, the Gainesville murderer, who did some of the worst five murders in history, was a brilliant artist, even a talented musician and poet, in prison they found his IQ was well above 150 which is extremely gifted, and he was prone to rape, burglery, peeping at women and other odd behavior even, supposed spit personalites before he did his Killing spree...
Jack the Ripper, still to this day, a controversy, yet he out smarted everyone from Police to Scotland Yard and would commit a murder right under their nose and then go off two blocks away and do it again..he is believed to have been the Queen's Surgeon, and no I am not getting that from the Movie "From Hell" , but from research done way before that movie came into play.
Then you even have your sickos like Ramirez, Dahmer, Starkweather etc...who seem to be the lower end of the spectrum, but still they were intelligent enough to carrying on normally, and kill repeatedly for a long time before police could figure it out..Dahmer was even returned one of his victim's after sweet-talking a cop!
And Andrei Chikatilo the most prolific and savage serial killer of Russia, read a book called "The Killer Department", he killed , savagely, over 50 young girls, boys, men and women for over 10 years and they even had him once and let him go...he again, was too normal and seemed bright and fit into society well..when in all actuality, he was a MONSTER.
OK, shut up..as for Silence of the Lambs, it was a brillant movie, from a good book, the SCARY part was Psychological, not gory....sorry you did not like it, but I thought Lecter was a fine example of a "composite" of many different real serial killers....and Jodie did well with the W VA. Accent! LOL
"Love the SUIT!" didn't you catch his subtle hints????? Bill was making a woman suit and Lecter KNEW all the time.. NOW HAnnible was a let down, compared to the book! I will agree to that :)
