Nah, his father was killed by a local mob guy who was trying to fix the fights that Matt's dad (a boxer) was fighting in. Matt's dad refused to take a dive and got killed. Matt hunted down the mob guy and his buddies and later found out that waaaaaaaay up the totem pole, the guy technically "worked for" the Kingpin, but still...

A blind old man was crossing a NY street and was about to be hit by a big truck illegally carrying radioactive waste. Matt saved the guy but the truck crashed and spilled out the chemicals, leaving Matt in the state described above. Coincidentally, this is also responsible for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but that's neither here nor there.

He became a lwayer because his dad always pushed him to go to law school to make something of himself. His dad didn't want him to have to be a brawler or something equally "low" when he grew up.

Sort of. It's not a revenge thing with the Kingpin, more like "you're running this city, fat guy, and I'm gonna bring you down."
The movie also has Elektra, who Matt met in college. She was the daugher of the Greek ambassador and she and Matt hooked up at school. Her father was killed in a terrorist hostage situation that Matt tried to stop, and she ended up falling in with the Hand and becoming a ninja killer.
Bullseye is also in the movie, and he's Daredevils main baddie outside of the Kingpin. He can basically pick up anything, paper, pen, book, teeth, whatever and throw them so hard they become a weapon. In the comic he ended up killing Elektra, which led to Daredevil letting him fall off of a building, breaking his spine.
Yes, Captain Fanboy strikes again! Daredevil, specifically Miller's Daredevil, is hands-down one of my favorite comics EVER. I can't wait for this flick...even more excited than "Spider-Man"...
