in LOTR, they used a technique which is called, i believe, force perspective... basically, they film Gandalf really close to the camera and then make Frodo stand quite a ways back from the camera... then you angle the camera so you don't see the groud and it looks like Frodo is standing right behind Gandalf and is half his height...

of course, sometimes, they use digital effects, like at Rivendell when the four hobbits are standing infront of the other 5 in the fellowship, that's all digital effects...

now, whenever you see the back of a hobbit and the front of an elf, man or whatnot, then they have a smaller person (i.e. child or a "small" person) stand in... now, then you have the back of a big person and the front of a hobbit, then the big person is usually some sort of rig that's probably about 10 feet tall and covered with the right clothing...

or something like that...

: 1. how could keyser sose make up all those names from the bulliten board, if he had already gave his whole story to the court, (which he got the immunity for). they wouldnt match up

: 2. in LoTR, how did they manage to make hobbits look so much smaller compared to gandalf, and everyone else. it looked so real, anyone know how they did this?
