: Anchor Bay consistently releases the films I want to own. They take great care in what they do.Great transfers, great 5.1 mixes,(sometimes DTS),and loads of features and nice packaging.
They also give us movies that are missing 92-seconds of footage (MANHUNTER "Theatrical Cut"), fake "16:9" transfers made from old analog videotapes (MANHUNTER "Director's Cut", ARMY OF DARKNESS "Director's Cut" aka Bootleg Edition), constantly re-release and re-release titles in new packaging (ARMY OF DARKNESS, HALLOWEEN- *ANOTHER* HALLOWEEN is coming out for crying out loud!-, EVIL DEAD...), only offer remixed soundtracks with *NO* option to listen to the films original mix, even if they severely fuck it up (SUSPIRIA- the remixed soundtrack is missing a ton of sound effects and music, plus some dialogue, plus the entire character of the mix was changed), improperly matted "widescreen" transfers (the new THX "EVIL DEAD"), etc. etc. etc.
Anchor Bay does do good work, but they also fuck up WAY too much, and so far refuse to impliment some very simply policies that would alleviate some of the frequent fuck-ups- i.e., including the original sound mix as a viewing option whenever there is a remix. Had the original 4-channel stereo sound mix that was prepared for SUSPIRIA back in 1977 been included on their DVD as a viewing option, I wouldn't be so upset about the unlistenable, awful remix, but they don't offer it, so I'm stuck with their fucked-up "improvement".
