Any country yokel can walk into Wal Mart and buy a DVD player for $60, but a good widescreen TV still costs a few thousand dollars, which the yokel can't afford. Hence, all these fullscreen versions of popular DVDs where there didn't used to be. Me, personally, I don't even own a widescreen TV, but still prefer the picture of widescreen DVDs.

But, don't fret. Before too long, a few years perhaps, you'll be very hard pressed to find fullscreen versions of new DVDs because widescreen, high-def TVs are starting to become the norm, and even most TV networks are preparing to broadcast in the widescreen format in the not so distant future. Some programs are broadcast that way already.
