: : check my reply to toms post, but on an addiional note the movie portrayed the irish as on one hand psychotic (sean bean) and the other apologetic (richard harris,a fellow limerick man,R.I.P.) no middle ground,it's a long story...
: I read that post, but you're generalizing for other people.
: Just because some of the IRA goes after Harrison Ford & his family in a MOVIE, doesn't mean the rest of the movie-going public think all people of Irish descent are homicidal nutcases.
: This sort of sounds like the big problem gays & lesbians had w/Sharon Stone's character in "Basic Instinct". (SPOILERS) They thought her character - a murderess - was going to make them look bad as a group.
: I'm a bit disturbed that the only villains that are PC nowadays can only be an American white male who is atheist and between the ages of 25-45.
You do have a point, but movies like this cast a shadow on those irish (or in america of irsh descent) who express a wish for a united Ireland, and I've heard this too many time's,those people are compared to the steroeotypical 'mad paddy bombers' as portrayed in such movies. In fact here in ireland (where we recieve all the british t.v. stations) the message we constantly get from the u.k. is that were thick or killers or thick killers! It's not just patriot game's weve had a lot worse than that...but..let's lighten the mood...why not join in my 80's movie poll?
