Affirmative Action says that minorities have been systematically denied access to proper education and better jobs in way that is so engrained that it transcends one generation's worth of damage control. When you can't get a good education, you can't get a good job... and when you can't get a good job, you can't put your kids into a good education and THEY can't get a good job... do you understand?
The IDEA that minorities were dumber came from the fact that they weren't allowed proper educations for generation... which then spilled over subconsciously into the culture of education to believing that minorities were INATELY uneducatable. It's a vicious cycle that requires drastic action to break.
These things can't just be fixed by saying "well it's over now" because they're things that have... cyclicly burrowed themselves into the culture and into the American collective subconsciousness. They have to be radically and deliberately fought.
We seem to not like solutions in this country that don't involve bombing children or lowering taxes for the very rich.
We're going to need to start liking real solutions.
Because we've nearly bombed and tax-cut our way to the end of the Roman Empire and the end of the world, as it is. We're going to have to get more complex if we wanna keep this planet rolling... with people on it, anyway.
