Either they learn about such things from you, or from their friends.
All parents are looking to be nice, upright people. But in some cases, you are only prolonging the inevitable. I guarantee their peer group will offer a much more warped perspective on these issues. Even to the point where things could be going on behind your back. Working things through with your kids could save a lot of time, not to mention preventing "odd incidents" from happening. Who knows? They might find you cool and add a mature perspective when facing the issues in real life.
