It was far from Hopper's directorial debut, however. I don't even think "Easy Rider" was the first film Hopper directed. I think he directed some artsy acid trip of a movie with Fonda a year or two before Easy Rider.

Anyway, "Colors" is a great film. It was when awareness of the gang scene in L.A. was really coming into the forefront to the middle america masses, and I also don't think it's outrageous to say that the movie inspired the making of such flicks as "New Jack City" and "Boyz In The Hood". Duvall and Penn really played off each other beautifully.

For a little comic relief, Damon Wayans playing the weirdo trying to hump the stuffed bunny in the toy store was hilarious!
