I don't know if "choppy and rushed" is the way to put it, though. Did you feel that way prior to seeing the (IMO) superior "Untitled" version?

I think "Untitled" illuminates the secondary characters and relationships more clearly, and the slower pace balances the out-there, frantic plot points...but the released version is more about William's story, and really, that is the heart of the whole thing. I can definitely see how all the cuts he made were justified.

It always seemed like a lot to cut, especially because it made the final movie (I always felt, and especially after seeing Untitled) feel choppy and rushed at parts ... I don't know how much of the "under two hours" was his decision, but he did at least get to decide *what* to cut. When the movie originally came out, he said the only thing he wished he had kept in was a longer shot of Penny dancing in the empty concert hall, after the concert. He wanted it to go on for another minute or something to that effect.
