Or at least, that's how he put it when the movie came out. It always seemed like a lot to cut, especially because it made the final movie (I always felt, and especially after seeing Untitled) feel choppy and rushed at parts ... I don't know how much of the "under two hours" was his decision, but he did at least get to decide *what* to cut. When the movie originally came out, he said the only thing he wished he had kept in was a longer shot of Penny dancing in the empty concert hall, after the concert. He wanted it to go on for another minute or something to that effect.
