I think the lasting memorial to Fred Rogers will be the legacy of tolerance and understanding he gently instilled in the people who grew up with the pleasure of watching him.

I would not be the person I am today if it wasn't for Fred Rogers. I would be afraid to go down the drain. I wouldn't know about the many ways to say I love you. I wouldn't know that sometimes a bird on a stick can be just as real as the real thing if you love it enough.

Betty, my condolences to you. My condolences, also, to the other people who, like me, were the only person Mr Rogers was talking to every day. His television neighbors will miss him.

"It's such a good feeling, to know you're alive.
It's such a happy feeling, you're growing inside.
And when you wake up ready to say,
'I think I'll make a snappy, new day!'

It's such a good feeling, a very good feeling
that I'll be back when the day is new.
And I'll have more ideas for you.
And you'll have things you'll want to talk about.
I will, too!"

We love you, Mr. Rogers. You always made each day a special day...and you know how? Because of just your being you.

Excuse me. I have to make sure the child inside me knows he's loved.
