"(like my father slowly dying of cancer in a nursing home half a country away and me not able to go home and help take care of him, but that's another story)."
-First of all, I'm very sorry to hear about that, I'll send some prayers your way (and I don't usually pray).
As for the rest of your post, I'm also a huge King fan and I'm very much looking forward to seeing "Dreamcatcher". I read the novel back when it first came out and it happens to be one of my favorites (and I'm the first to admit when Stephen King missed the mark).
I know that often when I see films based upon King's work things don't usually play out exactly as I pictured them while reading, however, I also think that the writer, director, cast, etc. of the film version play a huge part in the success or failure of getting the story across to us, the "constant readers". The "The Green Mile" or "The Shawshank Redemption" were good interpretations of King's work, mainly, in my humble opinion, because of the cast, etc. Although I REALLY wasn't picturing Tom Hanks when I read "The Green Mile", and was sceptical before seeing it, it worked for me.
I'm also of the opinion that the less Mr. King has to do with the screenplay the better. He's a novelist first, and I think it's difficult for him to shorten things up enough for the big screen (hence his love of the mini-series).
Long story short...I loved the story, love Jason Lee, cannot wait to see the flick!
