Okay, again I will admit that I come from a time when people read more often than they saw movies (we didn't have cable TV back in those days, only THREE major channels, and no, I'm not really that old, seriously!), so I probably will be razzed to death by the young people on this site, but I would like some honest feed-back here.

I received "Dreamcatcher" for Christmas because I am a BIG Stephen King fan. I haven't cracked the cover yet because other things are on my mind (like my father slowly dying of cancer in a nursing home half a country away and me not able to go home and help take care of him, but that's another story).

My son, however, just finished the book in four days and raves about it. Now he is quite anxious to see the movie and lets me in on various secrets and tidbits about the commercials when we see the trailers on television. He also is a Jason Lee fan, so I am sure that's another reason he wishes to see the movie, but again, I digress.

I have learned over the years that most King stories, while totally engrossing when being read, even as Bachmann books, are usually dismal failures on the big screen. I have come to enjoy the new King-directed version of "The Shining" that was shown on television (quite chilling, and followed his story a LOT better that the movie with Shelly Duval as Wendy - she made a better Olive Oyl in that horrid "Popeye" movie...), but I haven't watched "The Dead Zone" for fear of losing the depth of the story from the book.

King is among the giants when it comes to digging into the psyche, knowing what scares you and what keeps you awake at night. I'm worried about the movie perhaps not living up to my own imagination (like with "Carrie," "Christine" and especially with "Pet Semetary").

Anyone else who reads King have opinions about what "Dreamcatcher" may hold, and if they are looking forward eagerly or with trepidation to the movie?

Thanks. Appreciate input on this...
