- say it's a Friday night at a movie theater. A rep from the company whose movie is going to be tested in said theater will scope out the crowd for people who fit their "target audience" for the film, and said rep will walk up to those people and ask them if they'd like to attend a free screening of a new movie a few days later. If the potential attendee says yes, they are given a ticket and told when the screening will be (usually a couple days later). Sometimes they tell you the name of the movie to be tested when they hand out the tickets, sometimes they do not.
Brian Lynch used to attend test screenings all the time when he was going to William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ, maybe he can pipe in with some details on how he was recruited.
