For example, Orson Welle's follow-up to CITIZEN KANE, THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS, was tested without his involvment, and something like 50-minutes was hacked out of the film and a new, happy ending was filmed- again, without Welle's involvment. The footage that was cut was destroyed, so the film can never be restored to Welle's original vision.

Steven Spielberg recently came out and spoke against the practice changing movies based on test screenings. I wonder if he'll put his money where his mouth is and stop test screening Dreamworks-SKG movies. Somehow I doubt he will.
