Well, probably for the same reasons you love it.
All of the music is contemporary but reworked to fit into a sound that goes along with the mood of the movie.
The movie looks AMAZING. I watch it and think, "Now there's a movie that couldn't be duplicated by very many people in the world..."
The story is great, the music is great...
It was just very ambitious and something that hadn't really been done before. Musicals had been shit before Moulin Rouge, and now they are "best pictures..."
Which begs the question, if Moulin Rouge is better in every way than Chicago, how can it not get shit at the Oscars and Chicago win several awards???
