"Blaxploitation" was used to describe an era of films in the 60's & 70's using an almost-all black cast in camp-like themes.

What constitutes "Superfly" as 'blaxploitation' over something like "Roots" has to do with the seriousness & campiness of the film. Also, I think it had to do with the degradation of the person/race. Those films - though somewhat a sense of history/pride w/Africa-Americans - are thought of as 'silly'.

I could be wrong, but that's what I think.
