Green Arrow. Worth the read?

I'm relatively new to comic book reading/collecting. I was thiking about picking up the Green Arrow TPB that Kevin wrote. Will I be lost if I know nothing about the Green Arrow in the past or can I just pick it up and jump right in? So far I'm hooked on the New X-Men series and just about everything by Neil Gaiman. Any advice? Suggestions? Recommendations? I'm going overseas for the rest of the year and want to take a decent stock of readable material.
