: : I really do have tons of questions, are you sure you're ready? I've never been to Europe,
but I would like to travel there someday, so any information you find interesting, I would
love you to share with me.
: What brought you to Germany?
I am a german major in college and I want to teach german at the high school level. I have
one more year of college and to pass the test and then i can teach!!! woo hoo. I am on an
exchange for Junior Year Abroad in the south west corner, practically in switzerland/france.
: What is your favorite area of that country?
I think I would have to say for the most part I really love where I am right now because I can
travel easily to switzerland and france and italy, and i love switzerland and italy, france is
okay . . . I loved Munich and Oberammergau when I was here in 2000, and I enjoyed my
trips to Cologne and Bonn - beautiful cities. Berlin was huge, and I really mean huge, but
the museums are awesome there! I saw about 6 museums in 4 days and enjoyed them all
: Have you learnt how to speak German? If so, how long did it take you?
I have been learning german since sophomore year of high school, so when I came here that
was about 5 years or so, maybe even 6, but I really was not that good at speaking or writing
too well until after the first 4 months, then i traveled for 3 months and believed I had lost all
of that previous ability, but the truth was it came back so quickly and 10 times stronger. I
am not by any means at the level of fluency as a native german speaker, but I can watch the
TV and and hold conversations and most often understand at least 80% or more! When I
came here, I think I could do it at about 45% or so
: What other countries have you visited?
Okay, here goes the list . . . i went to London England, Paris France, Alsace France, all over
germany of course, Salzburg and Vienna Austria, Budapest Hungary, Prague Chez, Krakow
Poland, Basel and Zurich Switzerland (basel more than 5 times), back to London and some
other small towns in england like York Lincoln and other places I dont know the names,
Cardiff Whales, flew to Barcelona Spain and went to Salamanca and Madrid, down to Italy
Venice Florence Assisi Umbria region Rome Pompeii, Athens and Patras Greece . . .
alright I think that is it . . . I could give you all the small towns and cities in Germany and
Italy, but I figure that this is good for now. . .
: Well, I'll just ask you these ones for now. But don't worry, I still have more!
ask away, you can always send an email when you want to, I always answer them, plus Im on
vacation this week, so all I am doing is sitting in the sun and writing papers. Im so glad you
are interested!
