I recently read Kevin's work in Daredevil and Green Arrow. I loved the stories, but something bothered me about the subject matter. Both were heavily steeped in religion. Stan Lee has been reported to say that he never addressed the religious aspects of his characters because he didn't want to alienate his audience. He wanted everyone to be able to identify with the heroes on some level. To say that DD and Green Arrow are Catholics distances me from them to a certain extent. I mean Green Arrow has always been a very liberal character. And DD, while I love the man's determination and drive to combat evil, he is a lawyer. And lawyers rarely show any aspects of morality. I'm wondering what the purpose was in depicting these men as Catholics? It just seems out of character, especially for Daredevil whose experiences have brought him so close the Japanese philosophies of reincarnation and enlightenment. For all intents and purposes, the man is basically a modern ninja. Any insight into Kevin's storytelling motivations with these characters would be appreciatied.
