An absent Mewes
Dude, where's my star?
The makers of "High Times' Potluck" are looking for Jason Mewes, who stars in the upcoming madcap marijuana movie.
"We've been trying to call him. His cell phone is disconnected," director Alison Thompson told us.
The long-haired slacker icon is known for portraying eternal stoner Jay in Kevin ("Clerks") Smith's flicks - up to this point, at least. Now, his lawyer Martin Arbus told us, he's still in a New Jersey drug rehabilitation center. Mewes went there in April when a judge ordered him to get treatment after he violated probation on a 1999 heroin possession conviction.
Mewes has other problems. The 29-year-old, who has been struggling with his addiction, perhaps wisely decided not to turn his struggle into a reality show. An independent filmmaker wanted to film his battle to get clean from heroin as an HBO documentary, but Mewes backed out.
"Potluck" producers are already short an actor for their October premiere. Co-star Tommy Chong has been sentenced to nine months in prison for peddling bongs over the Internet. At least Jackie (The Jokeman) Martling and Sylvia Miles will be there.
