: A cut & paste from Today sunday 09/21/03 Daily News.
: An absent Mewes
: Dude, where's my star?
: The makers of "High Times' Potluck" are looking for Jason Mewes, who stars in the upcoming madcap marijuana movie.
: "We've been trying to call him. His cell phone is disconnected," director Alison Thompson told us.
: The long-haired slacker icon is known for portraying eternal stoner Jay in Kevin ("Clerks") Smith's flicks - up to this point, at least. Now, his lawyer Martin Arbus told us, he's still in a New Jersey drug rehabilitation center. Mewes went there in April when a judge ordered him to get treatment after he violated probation on a 1999 heroin possession conviction.
: Mewes has other problems. The 29-year-old, who has been struggling with his addiction, perhaps wisely decided not to turn his struggle into a reality show. An independent filmmaker wanted to film his battle to get clean from heroin as an HBO documentary, but Mewes backed out.
: "Potluck" producers are already short an actor for their October premiere. Co-star Tommy Chong has been sentenced to nine months in prison for peddling bongs over the Internet. At least Jackie (The Jokeman) Martling and Sylvia Miles will be there.
