This was certainly true before GOOD WILL HUNTING as well as after. Matt had already had a big part in SCHOOL TIES, GERONIMO, so forth...he hadn't made a successful movie but people had their eyes on him as the next big thing. Wasn't that the whole reason that they wrote the movie to star Matt, not Ben -- they wanted to capitalize on his buzz?

I always felt that the scene where Ben is telling Matt how lucky he is to be blessed with certain talents was very literally drawn from their relationship as buddies & acting rivals. Maybe I'm overanalyzing it, though.

I think Affleck's quotes are really taken out of context here. And this must be an old news bit?
