: Obviously (and everyone knows this) legalities should have been in order before the theatre was even sought out..but damn.
Yeah, that seems a bit heavy-handed for Kevin. I think we're being a little rough on the Beaver.
: I used to be active in the theatre and it takes a lot of hard work to get a show going and it would bite so hard to get that really good review followed by legal action.
: Especially if it's legal action from someone you admire.
Are we sure Kevin himself gave the order to Sloss? Or was it some over-zealous exec from Miramax?
Did anyone videotape this play? If so, Joel, maybe you oughta mail Kevin these items (c/o View Askew Productions, of course... no sense trying to stalk him at his California home):
* A nice letter, politely asking for permission to stage "Clerks" as a play
* A videotape of the play, if it exists
* A copy of the stage script
* And, for good measure, a copy of the review it got.
I personally thought nothing was wrong with putting this play on if no money was made off it. I guess not. I'll have to keep all this in mind the next time I entertain my idea of turning "The Breakfast Club" into a stage production.
Peace and Karats, Thomas
