As one of the seminal deconstructive works of comic books that has been... ripped off five-hundred-thousand times... of course it's going to feel stale.
What needs to be remembered is: all the current attempts at re-deconstruction of comics being essentially mental masturbation and an easy attempt at feeling "deep" for a writer aside, this is one of the books that did it first and did it best.
And... you're going to like the ending or else...
Well... or else you actually think Sadaam and Osama weren't trying to kill each other more than we were trying to kill either of them.
I'm not even digging at the Fox brainwashed cats on the board, there's a very good analogy to what went on in the end of the book and what's going on now...
