: It'll be interesting, but I think Burton will turn in something a bit darker and more twisted than the book's original spirit (although, he could surprise me). I wish that he would do the sequel instead, CHARLIE AND THE GREAT GLASS ELEVATOR. That book is weirder and more disturbing than the first, and Burton would be perfect for it.

The screenwriter is starting completely from scratch in an attempt to make this version closer to "the book's original spirit" than the '71 version.
