I've talked to a couple of my friends, both of which are management employees at the two larger cinemas here, they both told me that it's the decision of the theatre managers which films get shown there.
If they are offered the film. This one has such a limited release, I'm sure they had practically total control of which theaters the movie was shown in.
So it's absurd to say that the Christians in the event they stir up enough shit can't keep this film from being shown.
Why would they want to stop it? It would enforce many southern Christian's beliefs that the Jews killed their Savior.
I've seen the Passion play, it's really interesting, but by "the way things really were" I mean the brutality of the crucifixion.
I don't think anyone underestimates the brutality of the crucifixion. The guy had nails driven into his wrists, then through his ankles, then stabbed, none of which killed him, leaving him to die a slow and excruciatingly painful death. And if that's what you really meant, you should have worded the sentence better.
