Constant temperature is regulated by metabolism. This adaptation conveys an evolutionary advantage in that mammals and birds can live in environments where ectotherms (cold-blooded creatures) would not. Being warm-blooded, however, does have a disadvantage in that it consumes a great deal of energy and thus endotherms have to eat more.

Basically, the chemical reactions constantly going on in your body are what generates the heat. Also, refer to the second law of thermodynamics.
