: : it's not as easy as no liability....

: :
: : you have to prove that you didn't make those purchases and that's the hardest part. How do credit card companies know that you didn't make those purchases. Signature?? Maybe, but you don't need a signature for online purchases.

: : I'm just telling Shitty why he shouldn't use a public computer to make credit card purchases, and maybe raise a warning flag about when you loose your wallet.

: has to prove the legitimacy of the purchase -- not the customer. Speaking as an online merchant, it sucks! The customer is ALWAYS protected. Losing a wallet is an entirely different story. It needs to be reported immediately to your bank, credit card companies, and credit bureaus (like Experian or Equifax).

the only legitimacy of purchase is the actual card which as the 3 digit protection number on the back of it. That proves that this person does have this card, and the information of the cardholder (address, person's full name....) matches the account on the card.

And when you don't know it is happening to you, there is no need to go through a credit bureau (and Experian has become my newest best friend).

When I lost my wallet, I didn't own a credit card. But when I requested a copy of my credit report after I was constantly denied credit cards, I found out that there was over 10 credit cards with a default of payment on it. And I immediately took action. Claiming fraud on your credit isn't an easy thing to live with. I made over 100k last year and I still couldn't raise my credit limit over 400.00. I can only apply for credit cards over the phone. It is illegal for any credit card company to send me pre-approved credit cards, and I need to report such activity.

It's just not worth using a public computer to make internet purchases.
