I think everyone is really understating Anderson's performance in Clerks. I thought he did a great job, anyone could have played Dante, but there was a certain subtlety about the way that Randall was portrayed that I don't think anyone, not even Lee could have pulled off. It would be a mistake to make a second Clerks film without him, and quite frankly, I think he got shafted in his role in Dogma, I was expecting more from him.
Having someone else play Randall would be like telling Mark Hamill that he wasn't a good enough Luke Skywalker, and they were going to replace him with John Travolta, because he could bring it ticket sales.
It's blasphemy.
Oh, and apparently O'Halloran will be returning as Dante, because somewhere on the Dogma site Kevin stated that he will have a bigger part in the next movie. :P
