: What bothers me about a lot of the posts I'm reading on ideas for the new clerks movie is "Bigger supporting cast" or Replace so-and-so with someone else because he's more popular. So what?

The most important thing to me is that it not be the indie version of a Hollywood sequel -- more of the same. I'd like to see these characters explored in a new way.

One way to do that is to expand the world around them. I don't think the only goal in this should be to pack it full of name actors, but I think that's a potential benefit of it.

: Clerks was a damn fine movie that can stand on its own despite having a cast of unknowns. In fact, part of the reason I liked it so much is because it was such an accessable movie. The audience really got the sense that these were real people, with real sucky jobs, who dealt with sucky people on a day-to-day basis. I liked Clerks because I could relate to these guys.

Yes, and now I've seen it. I own it, I can see it anytime.

And despite my philosophizing on the subject, I wouldn't recast the movie if it were up to me. However, I'd work really hard with them to get better flowing line readings than they gave in the original.

: But the fact remains that if Clerks 2 doesn't FEEL like a Clerks movie, I don't think it will have the same impact on an audience. The characters and locations should be familiar without being cliche, and if you got anyone else to play Dante and Randall, I think you'll lose that connection with the audience. Just my two cents.

I agree... It should feel the same, only skewed. Time has passed. Things have changed. Let's assume these are real 3 Dimensional people. Let's find new aspects of their lives and their souls to explore.

I'm very hopeful that Kevin will find ways to do all of that. He's a remarkably talented writer. I simply find it interesting to explore how he might go about these things. It seems reasonable to me.
