Let's hope it's not like THAT!

: Think about it, he could easily set the record for highest grossing black and white movie of all time with Clerks 2...

I'm willing to put up serious cash that the highest grossing b&w movie of all time made more than the combined total of less than $30 million that Kevin Smith's movies have made theatrically added together.

: ... if he doesn't already hold that title with the first Clerks movie.

CLERKS made $3.5 million theatrically. I'd bet anything that doesn't even touch the record.

: There is NO need for him to spend much movie at all on this film, although I hope he would spend more on salaries for his original Clerks cast this time around than he could have the first time. I personally would be disappointed if Jason Lee is not in this movie, but I would be real pissed if his was recast into Dante's role.

Well, despite the general friendly discussion, it is already clear that Kevin intends to keep Brian... and that's good.

: This is a real odd oppurtunity for him, almost like T2. James Cameron got the chance to basically remake Terminator, with a huge budget and a different ending, when he made T2.

Well... the bigger budget and different ending made for a lesser film. It was far too bloated and overwrought. THE TERMINATOR remains 10 times the film T2 was.

: Kevin Smith can do the same thing with C2, he will have a much larger audience then he did in the first movie, but I will be thrilled if C2 is made with the same basic plot (Dante and Randal have wild adventures during another boring ass day at work), and a different ending (Randal fucks a dead guy.... or something).

That sounds like artistic repetition, which is reasonably entertaining for die hard fans of the original, but doesn't do much for Kevin as an artist nor will it draw in those larger crowds you're talking about.

My bet... larger plot, at least some color, same basic cast, shittier title, not quite as good a movie. That's pure speculation at this point, though -- except the part about the title.
