: Because, while they were OKAY, if those are the best episodes (most audience responsive, anyway), then I don't know about this series. I enjoyed 'em, definitely, but I do understand why ABC has been shaky over the series.

: My main problem is, there's no plot. Now before all you VA purists flame me back telling me the best part of the Clerks movie were its Star Wars refernces, sex jokes, and the like, a general plot could and should be stretched around the Clerks premise.

: And, of course, the annoying running gags that, while I like, most of my friends would get pissed off at, and change the channel. "Why are we walking like this?", for example.

: Maybe ABC's judgement is flawed, and these WEREN'T the most audience responsive, but if these are, I too would be shaky over the series.

: I just thought a little constructive criticism is needed on this board, because most people's opinions fall into two catagories:

: Either 1. complete and utter flaming: "This show sux!", and nothing to back it up.

: Or 2. View Askew loyalty, which is either based on blind support for anything Kevin touches, or fear of becoming one of those critics we've defended him against so many times.

: I DO, as I said, enjoy the show, though. Any thoughts?

I have to disagree with you. Sure the shows are OK, but they're definitely not what I would expect KS and the VA crew to put their names on. I usually count on them to push the envelope and come up with original ideas, but here I find some generic sitcom jokes and a bunch of repetitious gags that weren't all that funny the first time.

I do agree with your point that there is no plot. In the fast paced world of television, you have to drill the plot into the viewer in under a minute or they're gone. Many people are going to zap to another channel after watching five minutes of this pud pulling.

As for your observations on the criticism on this board, I have to say you're right on the money. I admit to falling into the first catefory of non sequitir insults, but after reading your post I felt like taking the time to respond. Your second category interests me further because I too have noticed how sycophantic and lemming-like some of these posters seem to be. I am a huge KS fan but I know a bad show when I see it. The last thing I would want to do is have KS believe his own hype.

Deep down in my heart I believe that KS truly knows this show is bad, and is just keeping up a strong front for his fans and his employees. I just wish he hadn't put his name on it.

Just my cents....
