I have been a fan of many directors over the years, Spielberg, Scorsese, Fincher, but rarely have I adored the movies of any director as much as Mr Smith. I think the work that we have seen so far has been of an exceptional quality, and I know there's even better to come.
I baught a DVD player last year and on my christmas wish list were the US versions of Mallrats and Clerks (I'm British you see - crap discs over here and still no sign of a release date for any of Kevins movies in the UK). My dear wife obliged and baught me the aforementioned films, I was even more excited to find out that there was a special edition of Chasing Amy on the way and that Dogma was also due. I couldn't find a cinema near me running Dogma during it's general release and thought that when the DVD came out it would be the real-deal.
Instead we got the stripped down version and no notices in any magazines that a special edition was even on the horizon, so what does a fan do - he buys it, only to find out a month later that there's a special edition due in October.
I realise that this is just marketing, getting the bucks back, but for fans it's a bit of a slap in the kisser.
I have watched the movie and have to say - as usual it's what I expect from Kevin - brilliant, it's just a little tainted now that I know I have to buy another one later in the year just so I can see all the good stuff that got left out and listen to the entertaining commentaries.
We're not all made of money Kev, please try and avoid this for future films
All the best
