Kevin Smith's a badass writer, a hardcore bastard of a director, so he'll never be top box office. I think he'll always have a huge following, but his movies will never kick the shit out of the simpering fare Hollywood blahs from their formulaic bowels. And the last "Fletch" movie was in 1988 -- 12 fucking years ago. And neither "Fletch" nor "Fletch Lives" performed that impressively when they came out in the '80s. I mean, this is a prequel/sequel to an ancient franchise that I remember fondly, but I'm 27 years old. And according to those all-important Last Word in Fiscal Celluloid trades, my age group don't go to the movies that much anymore :)

So I just hope Mr. Smith's not in for a bunch of headaches with the studio as far as casting and script direction goes. I'll be praying for him.
