: my picks are....
: 1: X-Men
: this is an awesome movie that still doesn't dumb anything down despite a PG-13 rating to reach a wider audience.
It did dumb down the backstory a bit so it could move quicker, but only slightly.
: 2: The Crow
: again an awesome movie, it stayed close to the dark comic roots and had a kick ass final performance of brandon lee (rest in peace)
Have to agree with you on this one.
: 3: Mallrats
: what can i say.. hilarious dialouge, great timing, jay and silent bob, and kevin smith directing. sure not based on a comic but it has a lot of comic subplots.
But not on this one, I love Mallrats as much as the next Smith-phile, but it doesn't belong on this list.
: 4: Superman: The Movie
: the first movie showed that an "everyman" for Superman can work, but he must look like Superman, not like Nicolas Cage.
I dunno, Superman: The Movie was good... but I personally thought Superman II was a bit more solid. It felt more like the silver age pre-crisis Superman than the first flick did.
: 5: Batman
: the original Batman choose the best actor to play Batman and the best to play the best villian, The Joker. Keaton and Nicolson have great performances in the only movie to not get too campy, even though the camp in Batman Returns was really just corny,
Alright, I agree with Batman. I even agree that currently Keaton is the best actor to step into the bat-suit, although Kevin Conroy on the animated series IS Batman. (but if they get David Boreanaz for Year One like they've been talking about, I think we'll see the perenial live action Bat from him... but I digress) However, Nicholson was NOT the perfect Joker. Nicholson didn't play the Joker. Nicholson played Nicholson. If you think Nicholson is the perfect joker... read some of the great Joker work in the comics. Read a Death in the Family, read The Killing Joke, read Arkham Asylum. Then watch Batman and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and tell me who's a better Joker. Nicholson in is ham-fisted "Jack Napier" performance, or Mark Hamill as THE JOKER
: I wanted to put Blade on there, but had to fit in Mallrats.
