Stormin- The Expanded Universe (EU) novels you referenced are not 'canon', and have no relevance or connection to the movies. Officially, the only thing that is canon are the movies, the screenplays, the movie's novels, and the movie's radio dramas...in that order.

Lucas does not take the EU into consideration when working on the movies, and has no problem with directly contradicting them.
