: Dead certainly doesn't help, but he was always against official analysis of his films.

I don't think I'd want to hear a commentary telling me what 2001 is 'supposed' to mean, nor would I like to know exactly how he made it. That's me, though. I would, on the other hand, love to hear him talking over "Paths of Glory" (for instance).

: : and the films weren't made 15+ years before DVD even existed...

: I'm not sure how this applies.

Because, for instance, the cut scene from the end of "Dr. Strangelove" ... if that had been done now, that scene would still exist in various formats. As it is, Kubrick destroyed the footage. (I believe he did the same for cut things from "The Shining", but I'm not 100% clear on that being destroyed.) But, the point is, now that he's dead, once the estate settles down a little, somebody would've been able to talk them into licensing it. Don't believe me? Well, they licensed "The Seafarers" on VHS and (forthcoming?) DVD.

: : the upgrade from VHS to DVD is like night and day...

: Absolutely!

: : i'm in love with the SuperBit concept... even higher resolution DVD without ANY extras...

: I'm not such a fan, but I may take up getting them for movies by filmmakers such as Kubrick who patently avoid discussing their work in depth.
