I get you. I'm not even that much into Floyd, but I think they're innovative and classic -- maybe not quite up there with the Beatles and Beethoven, but certainly on the next rung down. They're responsible for a lot of the sounds out there today, particularly anything that has to do with electronica, all this Bjork and Radiohead stuff that the kids are listening to, etc. They also have a big influence on all the jam bands, Phish and so forth, especially with the harmonies of voice that you mention.

: Roger's selfishness led him to believe that he was responsible for ALL of the band's success. While I love The Wall, I can't imagine it without Gilmour's guitars or Wright's keys. Mason't drum work was good, plus (I can't prove this, but I allege it) I think he did a good job keeping everyone working together.

Agreed. I think he's the only one who still speaks to everyone including Waters, really. And I think Roger's ego is more the reason why he gets pissy about them touring as Pink Floyd. It's not so much that he regrets signing the contract as the fact that they still sell out stadiums without him -- not because of the name, but because it's a great live experience. It doesn't support his sense of himself as being vital to the band.

Well hey, hell froze over for the Eagles, why not these guys?

He should be proud of the ongoing popularity. Any good band is greater than the sum of its parts. There are a million fascinating frontmen and solo musicians out there, but to find a truly genius band is rare.
