Kevin- Question, new writer here!

I am getting ready to write my very first screen play. I really have no idea what I'm doing and I have a few questions.

Someone told me not to write character bios. To just draw a tree with the characters name on it and on the branches put the names of 5 other characters and the way that specific character identifies with all of them instead. Any feedback is appreciated! Anyone?
