Don't get me wrong -- I've got no love for cops who are too stupid to know the difference between legal and illegal searches.
But you *were* 9 months overdue in getting the stickers, and that's still illegal. You got off pretty light. If you push this issue, you're just going to call more attention to your own negligence, and possibly risk being fined like hell.
