: : No because only you would ONLY be going 3mp - not 1mp less than the speed of light plus 3mp - and be at the mercy of the ship's speed (1mp less than the speed of light).

: It is not in relation to the ship, it is in relation to time... so I would in fact be walking faster than the speed of light.... right?

Nope. Because you are not exerting enough force (i.e. going about the speed of light). Think of it this way, the Earth goes so fast (I forget how much) in each revolution, but yet, we are not going that fast. We - if we're just walking - only go a few miles per hour even though the 'vessel' (Earth) we're on is going much faster.

: : Unless the projectiles were going faster than the ship, they would just sit there (I think). Like when we fire rockets from the Earth into outer space, the initial take-off blast would have to be greater than Earth's gravitational pull or else there'd be no take-off.

: So, shooting machine guns from ther front of the ship, the bullets would just sit there? would the ship then run into them?

I'm not too sure on this, but I just don't think they'd leave the ship at all. There has to be enough force/energy for the projectile to leave the ship. So at a normal projectile rate coming from something travelling so fast, I don't think it would leave.
