michael is a common name, but I'm sure some people named their kids after michael jackson...back in the day.
it's tricky naming kids after celebrities or their characters. it's like getting a tattoo, but where you'd be the one holding the regret, you now have a child holding it with you
my coworker named her child after a newscaster. that newscaster is now dead and they feel this odd sense of unsettleness (is that a word?)
although I guess now is too late and my post is really just obnoxious ramblings.
i'm sorry.
: This is for the big man himself, Kevin Smith, and all others who post to the forum (of course):
: Please do more drama movies! (Especially drama-comedy) It's the only way my husband will watch any of them! He is a big fan. So am I. Hilarious stuff, thought-provoking, and shows the offside of real people. We WILL own all Kevin Smith movies.
: On another note, I just wanted to let Kevin know that we named our second daughter Bethany after the Bethany in Dogma. Our first daughter, Trinity, we named for The Matrix heroine. It was just a cool name, there won't be too many Trinity's in her class, yet most people can spell it without asking - hear that, MOST - and finally it appealed to my lifelong church going self.
: Lutheran, not Catholic, which from the "statements" made in the movies I think Kevin is really a closet Lutheran and not a Catholic, but that's for another discussion...
: So when we were pregnant with our second, we wanted to find a similar name. "Bethany" was perfect, fitting all the first reasons all over again: Movie character name, not too common but common enough for the common person to spell (Ok, so maybe we gave comon people too hard a task), and "churchy." So much so, that my father-in-law who is an Apathetic (doesn't care), asked us, "Are you going to name all your children after Lutheran churches?" Don't tempt us.
: We live in the heart of furniture-making land, Hickory, NC, and would welcome a visit from any in the Askewniverse. Cheerio!
