I'll try and keep this brief...
I am very aware that some acts of violence - especially domestic violence and rape - affect many more women than men. Therefore, the vast majority of resources and effort available for solving these crimes should be spent specifically in relation to women.
What annoys me is the prevalent view that violence towards women is more unjust than identical violence towards a man. It seems to me that a man will tell his son that you must never, under any circumstances, hit a woman and then with his next breath tell him how best to take a man down with one punch. It is these double standards which need addressing.
In retrospect I think I wrongly detected that view in your wife's post and for that I apologise.
: Fuck, man - I have a daughter and a wife. And while I don't need to
: instruct my wife on the subject (as she's instructed me), I WILL be
: teaching my daughter that if any man lays a hand on her in a way that's not
: invited or overly aggressive, then she's to take the mother fucker's life.
: No questions asked, no exceptions made. It may not be a Christian
: approach, but what can I say? I'd rather have a daughter than a martyr.
: She'll never be a victim, if Jen or I can help it.
This would be the natural reaction of any father or husband to such an event. Even a Christian. But I like to think that most people wouldn't resort to retribution even in these circumstances. Since then they really would be no better than the rapist.
Right, that's all I'm going to say on the subject.
