: I know darn well the majority of readers are adults.

I assume this means you are a reader like myself judging by this statement?

:But they're not the ones people are suggesting might be reassured by seeing their heroes face the crisis.

In some small way I would be reassured, but Im guessing you mean this supposed scene was in fact meant for kids.

: No, they're the ones who won't settle for a half-assed look at reality,

If you are one of these people, sir, might I suggest a valume? Look comics are just that, comics. I would feel just fine seeing the entire Marvel and DC worlds drawn into ground zero, helping out. anyway they could and I dont know maybe a tagline with something for kids like "if you have questions about this please talk to your parents or an adult" I didnt claim to have the answers I just meant that some reference should probably be made. This is a time when many of us feel very helpless in this fight and it would be nice to have Superman go and kick the shit outta the cave dwellers, but its not okay to insight false hope, especially to a child. It would be suffice in my book to simply have a major character say something like "please do everything you can to help out. We are not the real heroes right now, the men and women of our armed forces are please support them." Its enough to possibly comfort but not so much as to rile ideas that Spiderman can put an end to all of this.

:in which case we come back to the questions: How could this happen in a world with super-heroes? Why don't they grab bin Laden and the Taliban to spare the world further innocent bloodshed?

There were comics during Vietnam and WWII, anyone know how it was handled back then?

Much Love
