Yeah, I know this has been done a million times and I'm a little late, but I finally got around to watching it this weekend. I've managed to avoid all the reviews because I wanted an unbiased opinion, but I could not escape the "Box Office Flop" scuttlebutt going around. I must say I was pleseantly surprised.
1. The special effects were AWESOME. I really dug how they did the sonic radar/utrasound effect. It was a nice touch.
2. I think Ben Affleck did a decent job playing a blind person. I also liked the quips he made in the coffee shop to Electra (I've never seen him before).
3. There were a few cheesy plot tricks, like the nosy reporter finding out his true identity, warning him about Electra, and then not printing his name. Another one, is Electra thinking DareDevil killed her father, then she almost kills him...kind of cheesy and predictable.
4. Kevin's part ROCKED. I think he looked absolutely adorable in those glasses and popping his gum. It was kind of neat to see him acting out of Silent Bob. Plus, he's hot.
5. I was convinced that Electra had died, so it was a nice twist that he found the brail good luck charm.
6. A discrepency I noticed was that in the beginning he is prosecuting a rape case, yet for the rest of the movie he's a defense attorney...if anyone wants to clear that up, it'd be great.
7. I also liked how he didn't have these magical super powers, the way I got it was that when he lost his sight he just focused on sound...I haven't read the comic book...did the chemicals give him this power?
8. THEY RIPPED OFF THE CROW. That kind of irked me off. I am talking about in the beginning where the reporter flicks his cigarette and the flaming DD pops up. The Crow is one of my favorite movies, so that just kind of got under my skin.
9. The sound track was AWESOME. Partly because I really like Evanescence, but I think the songs chosen were very fitting, and the music videos on the bonus features were nice.
All around, I thought it was about a "B." I know I'm not a movie critic and I don't claim to be one, but I enjoyed the flick and thought it was worth the nine bucks to buy the DVD.
Peace,
