You based a stage play on a movie without securing written permission from all the parties involved?

Are you high? Did you look into ANY of the copyright law or intellectual property rights laws at ALL before you... put on an entire play?

It's not just about a cut of the money, it's about setting up the legal precedent of defending your work for future legal defenses and... moreover... about a creator having a say in adaptations of his work, high quality, low quality, whatever the quality.

Ignoring whatever damage you could do to his and the property's reputation with a bad staging... the act of adaptation brings your interpretations of his characters and situations into it and... maybe you're mangling what he intended and putting out a message he doesn't like?

Jesus. You really looked so little into the legalities of co-opting a film property you didn't own? "Oh, we asked someone at Miramax..." What are you, five?

Lordy.

Mike
