: nope, they usually just have commitment ceremonies here. People want to make it legal but ofcourse the government dont want to do that 'because of the sanctity of marriage'. If that even exists anymore, or if it is even relevant. But my point was that atleast they havent banned marriage all together here, yet. Though the way our Prime Minister acts as Bush's lap dog, im sure it wont take long for us to follow. But lets hope not. It all sounds a little crazy if you ask me.

what is happening here. Basically President Bush wants to put in an amendment to our Constitution banning gay marriage, thus legalizing discrimination against gay people. It's a horrible precedent to set. A number of city mayors and counties across the nation recently started performing same-sex marriages and now the states and districts are mired in lawsuits against each other. Those people that support gay marriage claim that barring it violates the equal-protection clause in our federal and most of our state constitutions.

It's just ONE county in one state -- a very small area -- that has decided to ban all marriage until the Oregon state legislature has determined whether gay marriages are legal or not. People can just drive over to the next county if they want to get married. It's more of a symbolic protest.
