Kevin Smith was asked if there would be a trade of his current Batman miniseries, Batman: The Widening Gyre. Smith has created the character of Baphomet, apparently another vigilante in Gotham City that Batman somewhat approves of.
Smith confirmed that yes, there will be a trade of Gyre, but he
hopes "they hold it 'til first ish of GOTHAM BABYLON (all-BAPHOMET book Walt & I do next)."
Filmmaker Kevin Smith will be returning to BrantfordÕs Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament this year.
In 2009, his primary goal was to meet Walter, one of his idols, and play net in the tournament which raises money for the Brantford Sports Facilities Infrastructure Legacy Fund.
This year, he has his sights set on two new goals.
Yes, it may be the Pet Rock of the 21st century. But be honest: you've spent .99 cents on way dumber crap. If you're remotely into my nonsense, at the very least, this me-centric app will make you smile. At the very most, you'll put a noose around your neck, utter "It's all for you, Official Kevin Smith iPhone App!", and step off a ledge. Let's hope your reaction's somewhere betwixt the two.
Batman, Bruce Willis and Warren Zevon: aside from being three pillars of our culture and a trio of pretty cool guys, it doesn't seem like the Caped Crusader, the star of the "Die Hard" series and the writer of "Werewolves of London" have all that much in common. But soon, Monmouth County filmmaker and author Kevin Smith will have his name closely associated with all three.
Once again, Kevin Smith Ð the fan-favorite creator behind GREEN ARROW and Daredevil Ð teams up with Walter Flanagan Ð
the artist on the acclaimed series BATMAN: CACOPHONY Ð for an all-new adventure starring The Caped Crusader. The stakes
are high as Batman encounters a new vigilante under his wing amidst what Smith describes as a "backdrop of romance,
intrigue, and geek-bait guest stars galore." Trust us when we say that it's as awesome as it sounds. BATMAN:
WIDENING GYRE is just the start of things for Kevin in the Bat-Universe so get on board now!
Check out this extract from Shootin' the Sh*t With Kevin Smith: The Best of the SModcast. The book will be hitting shelves on September 29th, but if
you're at SDCC and visit the Titan Books booth (5337), you can pick up an exclusive free sampler.
The "Clerks" director and the "Tuesdays with Morrie" author will be teaming up for a movie adaptation of the Warren Zevon song, "Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)."
You heard that right. Nothing in the previous sentence is a typo. This mad scientist alliance is happening, as Smith exclusively revealed to MTV News, and he's pumped up about it.
Hockey's on the verge of something. It's not this year, and it may not be next, but the game's renaissance era is just around the corner. You watch. It's in the air. You can feel it. Hockey's about to come back up out of the cellar and crash the net of multi-cultural awareness for the first time since the heady days of the Dynasties.
Back on Green Arrow, I got to create a DCU villain. Now I get to create a DCU hero.
"The Widening Gyre" is a twelve issue Batman mini-series split into two volumes, with a half year break between each.
Issues one through six (Book I) will ship monthly. Then, the story goes on hold for six months. Then, issues seven
through twelve (Book II) will once again ship monthly. Yes, I built in the break to insure we don't run into my usual
problems with lateness. But I'm trying to improve, folks: first six scripts and first issue's art were already done
before we took this public.
...
But what if you're one of those people who's like "I'm not reading that. Batman's a pussy."
I may have something for you, too: Nick Barrucci over at Dynamite Entertainment dropped me an email a few weeks back
to tell me that, in addition to the "Lone Ranger", "Battlestar Galactica", and "Red Sonja" comics he publishes, he'd
just been granted the rights to publish comics featuring the Green Hornet and Kato. "Any interest in writing an arc?" he asked.

Kevin Smith likes to watch porn online, not to get his jollies but to marvel at how extreme the art of exhibitionist sex can be.
"I'm a morning porn peruser, and not for the titillation factor. I just find it interesting," said Smith, whose latest comedy is "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," the tale of best friends shooting their own skin flick to dig themselves out of debt. "I'll go read Google news, I'll go read Guardian UK, go read our Web site, and then if I've got nothing else, I will just peruse the porn sites, because it's an ever-expanding world."
My first exposure to George Carlin was in 1982, when HBO aired his "Carlin at Carnegie" stand-up special. When I saw the advert-featuring a clip of Carlin talking about the clichŽd criminal warning of "Don't try anything funny," and then adding, "When they're not looking, I like to go ...," followed by a brief explosion of goofy expressions and pantomime-I immediately asked my parents if I could tape it on our new BetaMax video recorder.
Kevin returns for more Q&A at the Count Basie Theater - November 7, 2008!
Ever wonder what actor, writer, producer, director, editor and Monmouth Count native Kevin Smith's top 5 favorite movies are?
This is your big chance! Celebrate the re-opening of the Count Basie Theatre after being closed for interior renovations this summer
with a no-holds-barred Q&A with the audience.
His new movie, 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno,' is set for release just a week earlier, so this could be a very interesting and timely dialogue!

James L. Venable Signed For "Zack and Miri Make a Porno"
James L. Venable, who scored Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks II, continues his working relationship with the director. He is signed to score Smith's new film, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, a comedy about two friends, played by Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks, who decide to make an adult film together to solve their financial problems. Supporting cast members include former porn star Traci Lords. The Weinstein Company will release the film on October 31.
Making Porno, Part 2: Climax
Around two in the morning Wednesday (March 15), we wrapped "Zack and Miri Make a Porno".
Poetically, it snowed right before we rolled for the last time... just after we'd
laid a bunch of fake white stuff for an exterior shot at Zack's
job. It nicely summed up the uncooperative nature of the weather we'd grown accustomed to over the course of the production.
A compilation of Q's and A's from Kevin and fans from the View Askew message board. Kevin talks about
the "Zack & Miri Make a Porno" score, the editing process, the MPAA, DVD extras and a possible release date.
It's a wrap on Kevin Smith's 'Porno'
"In terms of the stuff I've done in the past, it's probably closest to 'Chasing Amy.' It's very frank, it's very dirty but it's very sweet," Smith said, calling it a very touching love story.
"We shot a scene yesterday that was about as dramatic a scene as I've ever shot in anything I've ever done," Smith said, with his star confirming it. "This is in the same movie as all that other stuff?" Rogen said.
Daily Variety - Half the work for twice the pay
Working with Smith is a big deal for Rogen. "'Clerks,' when I saw that, was one of the defining moments of my career," he says of Smith's early success. "It's the first movie I saw where the characters were talking like me and my friends talk to each other -- about 'Star Wars' and blowjobs and what have you. That was tremendously influential in my writing.
Director waxes philosophic on his 'dirty, dirty movie'
"We had such a good time with 'Dogma' in 1998," said Smith, a bearish man with a neatly trimmed beard and horn-rimmed glasses. "It seemed like a no-brainer to shoot here. It had to be shot in a place that you'd think was the last place someone would shoot porn. And that's Monroeville."
Kevin Smith's film, now shooting in western Pennsylvania, stars Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as broke friends who embrace their desperation by making their own X-rated tape to pay off their debts. In the process, they uncover romantic feelings for each other.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno" begins filming
Kevin Smith begins filming his eight film on Wednesday, January 16th. Read all about the casting, rehearsals and thoughts here.
"The Office's" Craig Robinson and former porn star Traci Lords have joined Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks and Jason Mewes in Kevin Smith's "Zack & Miri Make a Porno."
Ricky Mabe (ABC Family's "Beautiful People"), Jeff Anderson ("Clerks II") and Katie Morgan (HBO's "Katie Morgan: A Porn Star Revealed") have also joined the film, which is being produced through The Weinstein Co. and Dimension Films.
Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash West Re-Opens at its new location!
Comic book and pop-culture store Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash West has reopened at its new location.

"Zack and Miri Make a Porno" casting announced
"Knocked Up" star Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks and Jason Mewes have signed on to star in writer-director Kevin Smith's raunchy new comedy "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" for the Weinstein Co. and Dimension Films.

Kevin completes the first draft of 'Red State'
Finished "Red State" around 1-ish. Totally different than anything I've written
before. Very fucked up. Shortest script I've ever written, too, as well as the least dialogue-driven
(not to say there's not a lot of dialogue in it still; just not nearly as much as I'm used to writing).
It's a weird, relentlessly bleak and extremely unsettling affair, that "Red State" script. If you didn't
know I wrote it, and you read it, and I told you afterwards that I'd written it, you'd be like "Bullshit."

Entertainment Weekly digs 'Reaper'
With an outrageously entertaining pilot directed by shabby-chic crassmaster Kevin Smith,
Reaper enters the season with great buzz thanks to its engaging cast
and sharp blend of wit, weird, and wink. Sam's first secret
ghostbusting weapon? A Dirt Devil. The desolate portal to which Sam must haul
his damned bounty? The DMV. But Reaper also has heart; the pilot's
premise-establishing moment a father-son chat, in which Sam learns that
his parents sold his soul to Beelzebub before he was born isn't only absurdly funny,
it's actually moving.
"Live Free or Die Hard" with Kevin
I loved this flick. Naturally, I'm biased because I'm in it. But as of this writing, it's got a 78% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so apparently, I'm not alone.
As I did earlier this year with "Catch and Release", I've collected all the positive pull quotes regarding my little role (played with a very big roll,
barely contained under my three costume shirts).
Of course, there were a handful of naysayers, the best of which was Ty Burr in the Boston Globe who wrote "They bring on Kevin Smith, the "Clerks"
director and, increasingly, an indie-cred muppet for studio movies..." Any outrage I might've mustered evaporated after reading "indie-cred muppet";
unfair or not, that shit's funny.
But in the reviews that mentioned me (and not all of them do, as I'm not exactly a prominent presence in the flick), the
lion's-share were thumbs-up. And while I won't be quitting my day job to concentrate on acting any time soon, it was nice to know I didn't just not sink
the picture, I actually helped in some small way (nobody wants to be the guy that fucks up "Die Hard"). Thanks, all, for the kind words.

Smith deals with the devil for 'Reaper' pilot
Kevin Smith is set to direct the CW pilot "Reaper," a comedic drama about
Sam Oliver, a 21-year-old slacker who learns that at birth his parents sold
his soul to the devil and now has to pay the debt by becoming the Satan's
bounty hunter, retrieving souls escaped from hell.

So I hit up the guys at mtvU with an idea for short-form program I could host out of Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash called "For Those Who Can't Get Laid" - a tip show that'd provide a list of upcoming movies/music/comics/events college kids might not know about. They went for it, and then came up with an even better idea: rather than simply produce it in-house at View Askew, we set it up over at UCLA and make an accredited course out of it, with the students actually fulfilling all the various production roles. They get experience, make connections and earn college credits, I get cheap labor; everybody wins.
Kevin in a Showtime Pilot
Director Kevin Smith and British actor James Purefoy have joined the cast of the Showtime comedy pilot "Manchild."
The project, based on a BBC series, revolves around a group of fortysomething male friends (Smith, Purefoy, John Corbett, Paul Hipp) who are knee-deep in midlife crises.
Smith will play Paul, the cynic of the group, an angry divorced guy who loathes himself, his ex and his ex's perfect new husband.
MPAA hands 'Clerks II" an 'R' rating
"I was shocked... literally, in shock... when I got the call regarding the rating. Based on our history with the MPAA (we fought NC-17's on both "Clerks" and "Strike Back", and fought an R on "Jersey Girl"), we were all gearing-up for another battle, as the "questionable" content in "Clerks II" goes beyond anything we've ever presented in a film before. Don't know what happened in the MPAA screening that morning, and don't need to know. All I do know is that they handed us an R, without asking for a single cut. And rather than obsess over it, I just quickly (and happily) accepted the rating and moved on - delighted that I won't have to "revisit" the flick editorially, or deal with distribs saying "But with no rating, we're severely limited in how many theaters we can screen in, we can't do TV spots, we can't..."
But ask anyone who's seen the flick already and they'll probably tell you: the fact that "Clerks II" got an R without any cuts is kinda wacky.
But I'll take wacky over all the stress that comes with an MPAA battle any day."
Clerks II - In Theaters on JULY 21!!

Over the last week or so, I've been cutting together a teaser for the new flick,
and this morning, we post it over at the Clerks II website. Cruise on over there
and peep it when you get a chance.
For those who're trying to avoid spoilers, don't worry: it's not a very revealing
two minutes, as it gives away precious little about the movie's plot. ItÕs merely
a sneak peek at what "Clerks II" looks and feels like, set to one of my favorite
tunes of all time: "Among the Living", by Anthrax (for the curious, this isn't the original
recording of "Among"; this is a re-recording of the song from the excellent album
"The Greater of Two Evils").

Kevin Smith fans Crash the Stash
Joe McLane began waiting in line at 5:15 a.m Sunday for a chance to meet one of Monmouth County's biggest celebrities who doesn't play the guitar.

of the critically acclaimed Canadian dramatic teen series "Degrassi: The Next Generation."
As with most comic book covers, the image up front doesn't really tell the story inside. These covers aren't spoilers at all; they reveal nothing about the plot. As with the covers of issues 1, 2, and 3, they're just striking, iconic images of the titular (pun intended) character.
